Manchester City can bank on one less big-name asset departing the Etihad Stadium this summer after Algerian international Riyad Mahrez extended terms with Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.
Mahrez, now 31, will be contracted to City until 2025 after he agreed to a fresh two-year extension, putting to rest any angst surrounding the fact that he had just one year left on his previous deal with the current Premier League holders.

The Algerian star has largely been a key performer for City since his arrival from Leicester City in the summer of 2018 after previously helping the Foxes become shock Premier League champions in a memorable 2015-16 campaign, registering 63-goals and adding a further 45-assists in 188-appearances in all competitions.
Mahrez tweeted about his delight at extending his deal with the league champions, stating “2025 – Proud and happy to remain a Cityzen, with always the same thirst for trophies. We keep going.”
His extension comes in the wake of City losing England star Raheem Sterling to potential title rivals Chelsea and Gabriel Jesus to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
But there remains an air of expectation and promise around the club’s chances of once again retaining their Premier League crown after Guardiola’s men were reinforced by Norwegian starlet Erling Haaland, Leeds United icon Kalvin Phillips, and the return of January acquisition Julián Álvarez.
With Mahrez remaining one of the key pieces under Guardiola in the vaunted City front line along with Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne, it can wholeheartedly be expected that he is set to play a leading role in yet another campaign where the Sky Blues are set to lead the charge at the top of the table.
