Malta Guinness WPL: Three derbies await us in Northern Zone – Preview

The Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League continues this weekend across various League centres in the Northern Zone.

There are local derbies to look out for in Tamale where second placed Pearl Pia Ladies host Tamale Super Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium as well as Fabulous Ladies against Supreme Ladies at the Bantama Astro Turf. Debutants Candy Soccer Academy have a tough test at home against defending champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

PEARL PIA LADIES VRS TAMALE SUPER LADIES

The Aliu Mahama Stadium will witness a regional derby when Pearl Pia Ladies host city rivals, Tamale Super Ladies. Tamale Super Ladies – 6th in the League log, put up a good performance at home against Fabulous Ladies by winning 3:1 on Matchday five. Pearl Pia Ladies come into this fixture after being humbled by Ampem Darkoa Ladies by 4:0 – a result that sent the champions to the summit of the table. It is difficult to predict the outcome of this contest knowing the nature of local derbies but Pearl Pia Ladies who are yet to lose at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium since last season will start as favourites having displayed character and grit thus far.

FABULOUS LADIES VRS SUPREME LADIES

Fabulous Ladies will host Supreme Ladies in a local derby at the Bantama Astro Turf in Kumasi. Fabulous Ladies have been poor in terms of performance having won one out of the five matches played in the season. Supreme Ladies on the other hand started the season well and gave high hopes after putting five past Candy Soccer but their form has dipped in the last few games as they have struggled to win a game since Matchday one. Both teams will look to get all the maximum points and the bragging rights at stake.

PRISONS LADIES VRS NORTHERN LADIES

Prisons Ladies have been inconsistent after picking maximum points on Matchday 4. They dropped points when they drew 1:1 to Ashtown Ladies away on matchday 5. Northern Ladies also put up a splendid performance by scoring Candy soccer 5:2 but have displayed a high level of inconsistency in their performance in recent weeks.

CANDY SOCCER ACADEMY VRS AMPEM DARKOA LADIES

Ampem Darkoa Ladies picked up all maximum points at home when they humbled Pearl Pia Ladies at home by 4:0 to move to the top of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. The Techiman based team are back on top with 10 points and will be hoping to retain their spot when they play Candy Soccer Academy on Saturday. Candy Soccer seems to be struggling in the top flight after losing four of the five matches played and lie bottom in the Northern Zone table with three points. Ampem Darkoa Ladies are ahead of the debutants in terms of experience and form and are favourites to get the maximum points.

DREAMZ LADIES VRS ASHTOWN LADIES

There is another exciting derby in Kumasi between Dreamz Ladies and Ashtown Ladies to look ahead to at the Bantama Astro Turf. Both teams drew in their previous games with Ashtown recording a draw whilst Dreamz Ladies played out a four-goal thriller. Dreamz Ladies have moved further up the table with 7 points. Their Talisman, Stella Nyamekye scored a brace in their last game with an improved performance each week. Ashtown Ladies are the only team yet to lose in the Northern Zone and are third in the table with 9 points.
