Midfield dynamo Majeed Ashimeru has earned a recall to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup in London, following a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to injury.
The Anderlecht midfielder missed Ghana’s last four matches, including crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Ashimeru’s last appearance for Ghana came in October 2024 in the Afcon qualifiers.
However, after slowly regaining full fitness, he has now been named in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the four-nation tournament set to begin three days after the end of the English Premier League season.
Ashimeru made six appearances for Belgian giants Anderlecht towards the tail end of the 2024/25 campaign, gradually working his way back to competitive action.
His return is seen as a timely boost for the national team, which is keen on injecting creativity and control into the midfield.
The Black Stars are competing in the Unity Cup in London, England, facing Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, and Jamaica.
Their next challenge is against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on May 28, where the winner will advance to the final and the loser will compete for third place.
