Lukaku follows De Bruyne and more in early departure from Belgium camp

Chelsea star follows Kevin De Bruyne and more in early departure from Belgium camp

The Belgian national team have, on Sunday, confirmed a host of early departures from Roberto Martinez’s camp.

The Red Devils, of course, are currently in the midst of their latest stretch of international fixtures.  The last week has seen Martinez’s troops play out a trio of fixtures, as part of the 2022 Nations League Group D.

And, all told, it has proven something of a mixed bag from a Belgium perspective.

Their first outing saw the world’s 2nd-highest ranked side slip to an alarming 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands, sparking understandable concerns across the country’s fanbase.

Just five days later, though, the Red Devils bounced back in a major way, putting six past Poland after slipping into an early disadvantage at the King Baudouin Stadium.

Then, last time out, they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in Cardiff, owing to a late equaliser on the part of Wales’ Brennan Johnson.

Such results mean that Belgium sit joint-2nd in the Group D table, aware that defeat at the hands of Poland in the country’s final outing of the June break could prove altogether costly amid their pursuit of Nations League glory.

And yet, Martinez and co. are set to make the trip to Warsaw on Tuesday night sans the services of a whole host of key performers.

As per an official statement across the nation’s social media platforms, all of Kevin De Buyne, Thomas Meunier, Romelu Lukaku, Dedryck Boyata and Amadou Onana have been forced into premature departures from the Belgian camp.

Little further information as to why has been provided.
