Liverpool’s stance on swoop for Man United target Nunez revealed

Liverpool’s stance on swoop for Man United target Nunez revealed

A fresh insight into the future of in-demand Benfica star Darwin Nunez has been provided on Monday, amid suggestions that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have joined the hunt for his signature ahead of next season.

Hitman Nunez has of course seen his name take centre stage in the headlines over the course of the last couple of months.

This comes with the Uruguayan understood to have been added to the wishlists of a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, owing to a head-turning haul of 34 goals across all competitions this season.

To this point, the outfit most persistently touted as a potential summer landing spot for Nunez have, of course, been Manchester United.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, then the Red Devils appear to have been joined in the hunt for a key summer target by one of their fiercest rivals.

The outfit in question? Liverpool.

As per a whole host of outlets, Jurgen Klopp and the transfer team on the red half of Merseyside have identified Nunez as a legitimate target to reinforce the club’s frontline over the coming months.

This comes with Sadio Mane of course primed to depart Anfield on the back of a prolific 6-year stint on Liverpool’s books.

Benfica’s star man, who actually found the net in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final tie with the Reds earlier this year, has therefore been earmarked as a potential replacement source for the Senegalese’s goals.

Those in a position of power at Anfield, however, are only willing to sanction a swoop for Nunez on their own terms.

As per Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool’s interest in signing the gifted hitman will only bear fruit in the case of Benfica setting their asking price at a sum not deemed to be excessive.

This comes with Nunez just one of a host of targets on the shortlist of Klopp and co, who remain ‘unwilling to pay over the odds’ to reinforce the club’s frontline.
