Liverpool team news update ahead of Villarreal clash

Jurgen Klopp will once again be without striker Roberto Firmino when Liverpool face Villarreal in the Champions League second leg semifinal on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian picked an injury during last month’s FA Cup win over Manchester City but continues to make good progress, according to Klopp, who spoke to the media on Monday.

Divock Origi, who missed the match at Newcastle due to illness, will be available for the second leg clash.

“A little strain here in the middle foot bone, so it’s very painful each step. But he was running today again, will travel with us but will not be involved in the squad yet. But we hope sooner rather than later.

“We had the issues with a stomach bug – they are all back. I think that’s it. No concerns.”

It means Klopp will have almost an entire team to pick from when they take on Unai Emery’s side.

The German though knows the challenge the Yellow Submarines will pose and has urged his team to ‘give everything’.

“It’s half-time. In the best possible way, you ignore the result from the first game. If that would be a cup game, only one game and it would be decided and we have to go to Villarreal, we would try to win there,”

The Reds lead 2-0 from the first leg played last week at Anfield, and are favourites to play their second final in four years.
