Liverpool’s hopes of reaching a third Champions League final in five years have been handed a boost as Spanish media report that Gerard Moreno could well miss the games against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Spanish striker, who has scored 9 times in 17 games for Unai Emery’s side this season, was forced off early in the second half of their La Liga clash against Getafe, with his side going on to hold on to a 2-1 win.
However, as per Marca, ‘with just over a week to go until the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool, the Catalan forward’s presence is now in doubt’ after what looked to be a muscle injury.
It would come as a major blow to the Yellow Submarine, who are looking to make their second European cup final in as many years, though this time the Champions League instead of its lesser competition the Europa competition which they lifted last season.
Liverpool’s Quadruple hopes still on
Liverpool’s attempt to do the unprecedented, and register a quadruple across domestic and European fronts, remains very much on.
Coming through a tricky semi-final against Manchester City courtesy of a 3-2 scoreline that in truth flattered the Cityzens, they now face one more Wembley outing against either Crystal Palace or Chelsea next month.
Meanwhile, they trail Pep Guardiola’s side by 1 point in the Premier League standings, and know that they need to be perfect and rely on a Manchester City slip up in order to lift the trophy for the second time under Jurgen Klopp.
And they could meet the Manchester club in the Champions League final too, with both sides in the semi-finals against Spanish opposition. Victories for both would see them meet yet again in Paris for the final, as both sides dispute the title of best club in Europe.
It could still be an even more memorable season for the Reds.
