Liverpool played out their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were well aware that they had to beat Wolves and then hope for Aston Villa to get a result against Manchester City in order for them to win the league title.
However, when all was said and done on Sunday, though Liverpool did see off Wolves, Villa could not get the job done against City, putting an end to the Reds’ quadruple hopes.
Wolves took less than three minutes to find the net at Anfield. The ball was played over the top, resulting in Ibrahima Konate’s failed clearance allowing Raul Jimenez to cut the ball back to Pedro Neto:

Sadio Mane, though, fired Liverpool back on level terms 24 minutes in.

Mohamed Salah then came on and netted for the hosts after 83 minutes before Andy Robertson made it 3-1 late on.

Liverpool player ratings
Alisson (6.5) – Couldn’t do much about the Neto goal. Made several solid saves throughout the game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (5) – Did not mark Neto well for his goal. Continued to step up higher than the rest of his backline and with van Dijk out and Naby Keita as the right-sided central midfielder, his actions left Liverpool exposed.
Joel Matip (8) – Was excellent going forward once again, creating a number of chances by bringing the ball out of defence and producing some great long balls. Also assisted Salah.
Ibrahima Konate (4.5) – Poor attempt at a clearance which led to Wolves’ opener.
Andy Robertson (6.5) – Scored Liverpool’s third, solid at the other end.
Jordan Henderson (6) – Passing was very accurate, but he was somewhat anonymous defensively in the first half. Began to pull the strings in the second 45.
Keita (5) – Was not at his best going forward and also did not help Alexander-Arnold out enough defensively.
Thiago (6) – Really clever backheel for the Mane equaliser. Forced off at half-time due to injury.
Diogo Jota (5) – Struggled to have much of an impact on the right. Off after 58 minutes.
Sadio Mane (7) – Decent power on his equaliser even if it wasn’t very accurate. Continued to cause Wolves issues through the middle.
Luis Diaz (5) – Had a great chance to make it 1-1 nine minutes in but he fluffed his lines. One of his quieter displays.
Substitutes
James Milner (5.5) – Slotted into the game well but didn’t bring the same creativity as Thiago.
Mohamed Salah (7) – Was very bright when he came on and came close to scoring 66 minutes in before being denied by a great tackle. Got his goal after 83 minutes.
Roberto Firmino (5.5) – Gave the ball away several times when he came on but assisted Robertson as well.
Wolves player ratings
Jose Sa (6.5) – Good goal kick to start Wolves’ attack for the opener. Made some great saves, including early in the tie to deny Diaz. Should have done better with Mane’s goal. Off at half-time due to injury.
Willy Boly (6) – Should have been tighter to Thiago when he set up Mane. Made a great tackle to deny an almost certain Salah goal.
Conor Coady (5) – Poor marking of Mane for his goal.
Toti Gomes (5.5) – Put in a number of good tackles on the floor but was not great in the air.
Jonny (5.5) – Put in several good crosses and created a big chance but none of them came to anything.
Leander Dendoncker (4) – Looked like he struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.
Ruben Neves (5) – Did not pay enough attention to Thiago’s movement off the ball before he assisted Liverpool’s equaliser.
Joao Moutinho (5) – Gave the ball away several times. Struggled to keep up with the tie as it wore on.
Rayan Ait-Nouri (4) – Was lacking defensively and offered little going forward.
Pedro Neto (6.5) – Calm finish to put Wolves 1-0 up. Off after 21 minutes due to injury.
Raul Jimenez (6) – Good composure and cross to set up Neto. Unable to repeat the same trick late in the game, this time over-hitting a delivery to Hwang.
Substitutes
Hee-Chan Hwang (4.5) – Struggled to have much of an impact on the game, unable to emulate Neto’s runs in behind.
John Ruddy (6.5) – Brought on at half-time but settled into the game very well and made several good saves.
Trincao (N/A)
What the experts said
Not exactly the same threat without Neto. Wolves try and release Hwang down the left but he runs off the pitch with the ball.
