Young footballer of Ghanaian descent Levi Acheampong has expressed joy after making his debut for Jong Ajax in the Dutch second-tier league.

The teenager, who has been playing for the youth side of AFC Ajax, recently stepped up to feature for the reserve team in the Eerste Divisie.

Acheampong earned the opportunity after catching attention with strong displays for Ajax’s U19 squad this season.

He was handed his first appearance for Jong Ajax during their match against Helmond Sport.

The 18-year-old said the moment marked an important step in his development as he works towards a regular place in the team.

“It was fantastic,” he said after the match.

“First of all, I want to thank the coach (Óscar García) from day one, he included me in the Jong Ajax squad. I’m very grateful for that, and it was a wonderful moment for me.”

“They’ve told me I’m a good player and see a lot of potential in me, but that there are still a lot of things I need to work on. That’s why they’re so keen to have me. This way, I can work on my areas of improvement with the Jong Ajax staff.”

Acheampong has featured 14 times for the Ajax U19 team this season, scoring three goals and registering one assist.
