Bayern Munich and German international forward Leroy Sané is undoubtedly one of the most gifted wingers in Europe on his day, and the 26-year-old can partially thank Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for his rise and development following their time at Manchester City.
Old quotes from 2020 have emerged amid murmurings that Arteta and Sané could be reunited at Arsenal this summer, as the Gunners explore possibly adding another attacking player to the ranks at the Emirates Stadium before the window closes, with Sané having been on a list of possible targets for the Spaniard earlier in the window.
?? Leroy Sané on Arteta:
? “I can [only] say positive things about Mikel. Since we started working together, he helped me a lot on the pitch. He tried to improve my football; he told me what I did good and what I did wrong, and he tried to work on it.”

Though he is likely to remain at Bayern this season, previous quotes on Sané’s part regarding the Gunners’ boss have no doubt fueled speculation in some quarters that the pair would be interested in once again linking up on the training ground.
“I can just say positive things about Mikel Arteta. Since we started working together, he helped me a lot on the pitch. He tried to improve my football; he told me what I did good and what I did wrong, and he tried to work on it. Next to Pep, they both really helped me and improved me, to bring me to the next level.”
“Even now, at Arsenal, for me you can see he’s doing a great job. You can see he has a concept, a way that he wants to play, a way that he wants his team to play, and obviously it will take some time until everybody really understands it. I think he will do a great job as a [head] coach too.”
And Arteta has certainly delivered thus far after headlining a period of change in north London that has given rise to high expectations among fans this summer, as the 2022-23 Premier League season is around the corner.
The Spaniard has continued to work with technical director Edu Gaspar in building a squad capable of clawing its way back into the Champions League, and should Arteta and the Gunners achieve their objective this season, Sané will no doubt have been proven correct in his assessment of his former coach.
