Alfonso Leocadio has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target Mohamed Camara.
What’s the talk?
In a recent post on Twitter, the Portuguese transfer insider revealed that, despite Graham Potter’s Brighton having been heavily linked with a move for the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder this summer, the 22-year-old has now decided that he would prefer a £25m move to Elland Road ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
In his tweet, Leocadio said: “Mohamed Camara has decided to join Leeds United over Brighton, I’m told. Not official yet but this is what I’m told currently.”
Major coup
Considering just how impressive Camara was for Salzburg last season, and with Brighton having previously appeared to be leading the race for the Mali international’s signature this summer, Leocadio’s suggestion that the 22-year-old has now decided he wants to join Leeds undoubtedly represents something of a huge coup for Orta and the Whites.
Indeed, over his 25 Austrian Bundesliga appearances in 2021/22, the £24.3m-rated talent was in breathtaking form for Matthias Jaissle’s side. He scored one goal, registered three assists and created three big chances for his team-mates, along with taking 0.9 shots, making one key pass and completing 1.8 dribbles per match.
The £2.9k-per-week holding midfielder also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making 1.3 interceptions and 1.9 tackles, playing 45.8 passes and 4.8 long balls, and winning 6.4 duels (at a success rate of 61%) per game.
These metrics saw the Malian average an extraordinary SofaScore match rating of 7.20, ranking him as the 10th-best player in the Austrian top flight last season.
Kalvin Phillips looks set to join Manchester City in a £42m deal this summer, so should Orta manage to get a deal for Camara over the line ahead of the Seagulls, the 22-year-old would undoubtedly make an excellent replacement for the England international in Jesse Marsch’s midfield next season.
We believe that Leocadio’s update regarding the midfielder’s potential move to Yorkshire is sure to have left both Orta and the Elland Road faithful buzzing.
