League One side in talks with Michael Carrick

League One outfit Lincoln City is in talks with Michael Carrick in regards to potentially becoming their new manager.

The Imps are looking for a new boss after they parted company with Michael Appleton who led them to a 17th place finish in the just-concluded season.

According to Football Insider, initial contact has been made with Carrick and preliminary talks have been held, with the 40-year-old reportedly keen to start his managerial career following his stint on the Man United bench.

Carrick has only ever managed three senior matches, which came as the caretaker boss of Manchester United in 2021 following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking at Old Trafford in November.

Having won two of his three matches in charge, Carrick departed the Red Devils following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick who has gone to perform dismally for the club.

Carrick wasn’t Lincoln’s first-choice target as they were initially turned down by Shamrock Rovers’ boss. Stephen Bradley but the former England international will hope that the coaching lessons he picked from Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer will be helpful in his first serious managerial job.
