Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has thrown his full weight behind his squad ahead of their daunting Round of 16 meeting with defending champions Senegal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The former Black Stars boss insists belief, not reputation, is shaping Sudan’s mindset as they prepare for one of their toughest tests in decades.
“Sudan deserves to go far in the AFCON, and our ultimate goal remains to chase for the AFCON title,” Appiah said, stressing that ambition remains non-negotiable within the camp.
While fully aware of Senegal’s pedigree, Appiah made it clear his players are not approaching the tie with fear.
“We have respect for Senegal. They are a big footballing country in Africa and former champions, but we are ready,” he added.
Sudan reached the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams in Group E, clinching qualification with a narrow but historic 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea.
That result marked only Sudan’s second AFCON victory since 1970, underlining the significance of their progress at the tournament.
