Klopp provides Firmino injury update

Roberto Firmino’s condition will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said.

The Brazilian missed the Reds’ 4-0 win over Man United in midweek with a minor foot injury but has made progress over the past few days.

Speaking ahead of the match, Klopp revealed the striker had his first training session on Friday.

“And Bobby, getting better and better. It’s just uncomfortable, painful. Today it’s his first day on the pitch, so there’s still two days to go, so maybe.

“If Bobby gives the thumbs-up then he will be involved. And not, then we wait another few days, but then I think after that it should be possible.”

Firmino is the only injury concern for Klopp ahead of Sunday’s clash.

“Not that I know yet. No other problems,” Klopp said whether there were any further fitness issues in the squad.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League standings a point behind Manchester City, who will be in action against Watford.
