GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed why Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren was appointed to the Black Stars’ technical team.
“With what Kim has achieved so far, he has justified his expertise, and we believe he has something extra to contribute to the team,” Twum said on Akoma 87.9 FM.
Björkegren, currently in Ghana preparing the Black Queens for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, will join the Black Stars after the tournament in March.
“His full concentration is on the Black Queens, and after March, he will turn his attention to the Black Stars,” Twum added.
The Swedish coach’s appointment is based on his impressive track record, including guiding the Black Queens to a bronze medal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying them for the 2026 WAFCON.
The GFA believes his experience and leadership will boost the Black Stars’ chances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
