Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has made it clear that striker Albert Amoah is not guaranteed a place in his starting lineup, insisting that competition and performance in training will determine selection.
The 25-year-old forward recently returned to the Ghana Premier League giants on loan from Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi, with the deal running until the end of the season. Amoah marked his return in style, getting on the scoresheet as Kotoko cruised to a 3–0 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Despite the encouraging performance, Zito stressed that no player is assured of a starting role, regardless of reputation or form.
“I cannot say he will get an automatic place,” Zito said. “Training will decide everything. That is why we train.”
The Kotoko coach emphasised that selection is based on understanding, combinations and what works best for the team on the pitch.
“I don’t have a say now — what happens on the training ground will show us what to do. It’s about understanding and combinations. The players you pair who give you results are the best,” he added.
Amoah will be aiming to maintain his scoring momentum when Asante Kotoko travel to face Heart of Lions in their Matchday 21 Ghana Premier League clash at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
