Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says motivation must come from both the technical bench and the players themselves as the Porcupine Warriors prepare for their outstanding match-week three fixture against Basake Holy Stars on Wednesday.
Zito reminded his squad that every player signed for Kotoko with a purpose — not just to wear the iconic red jersey, but to play well, stay competitive, and elevate their careers.
Speaking to Peace FM, he stressed the need for strong internal drive:
“I can motivate them, but before someone motivates you, you must first use intrinsic motivation. You joined Kotoko to play well and enhance your life as a footballer, not just because of the name Kotoko.”
With games coming thick and fast, Zito said proper rest has become a crucial part of their preparation:
“Energy was spent in the last game. If you don’t have that energy, you can’t play. Everybody wants to beat Kotoko that’s a fact so when you’re here, you must be ready for everything.”
The coach also addressed criticism surrounding the team but insisted he remains focused on guiding the squad through the season:
“Just like players, I also face criticism ; some positive, some negative but I have to stand firm and take it in good faith. This is Asante Kotoko.”
Kotoko head into Wednesday’s clash unbeaten in 10 matches, maintaining their status as the only team yet to lose in the league this season.
