Karim Zito admits injury crisis is testing Kotoko’s mental strength

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says the club’s growing injury crisis is putting huge pressure on his preparations, forcing him to rely on mental toughness and improvisation to keep the team competitive.

His comments follow Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Aduana Stars on Matchday 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium — a result that extends Kotoko’s unbeaten run but highlights their mounting challenges.

Zito admitted the constant stream of injuries is disrupting his plans each week.

“Not losing and getting one point is better, but I’m not trying to find excuses,” he said. “What I’m going through in this club is not easy. If you don’t have mental toughness, you can’t. Every day of the week, some player will get injured.”

He revealed that forward Dauda Saaka was deployed despite not being fully fit.

“I had to force Dauda Saaka to play. I have to use what I have to get what I want, though we couldn’t achieve the target,” he added.

Kotoko face Young Apostles today in a rescheduled fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium before traveling to the Nsenkyire Sports Complex to take on FC Samartex in their Matchday 11 clash this weekend.
