Karela United FC have been barred by FIFA from registering new players at both international and national level because of outstanding financial obligations to former player Sana Camara.
The decision was issued in a letter dated 17 August 2026 through FIFA’s Legal Portal, and comes shortly before the start of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee said the restriction will remain in place until the amount owed to Camara has been paid. If the debt is not settled, the sanction can last for a maximum of three entire and consecutive registration periods.
“In this context, it appears that, despite the Decision, Karela United FC … has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards Sana Camara,” FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallargas, wrote in the notice.
FIFA said it had consequently activated a ban preventing Karela United from registering players through both international and domestic systems.
“The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods,” the letter stated.
The world governing body has also instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to immediately enforce the restriction at national level, if such a ban has not already been applied.
The dispute relates to an earlier FIFA decision ordering Karela United to fulfil its financial commitments to Camara. The latest communication indicates that the club has not fully complied with that ruling, leading FIFA to impose the registration sanction.
The restriction covers international registrations handled through FIFA’s transfer system, as well as domestic registrations administered by the GFA. Karela United will therefore be unable to add new players unless it settles the outstanding amount or the maximum period covered by the punishment expires.
The case creates a significant obstacle for the club’s preparations for the new Ghana Premier League campaign. Karela United are scheduled to begin their 2026/27 season with an away match against FC Samartex.
To have the ban lifted and restore its ability to register players without restriction, the club will need to resolve the financial dispute with Camara.
FIFA’s notice was copied to Camara, his representatives and the GFA.
