Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo continued his resurgence with a solid 90-minute display in Celta Vigo’s 2-0 win over Puerto de Vega in the Copa del Rey first round on Thursday night.
The centre-back was handed a second straight start by manager Claudio Giráldez the first time this season he has featured in back-to-back games and once again delivered a composed performance at the heart of defence.
Aidoo’s return to form marks an important turnaround after enduring a difficult spell last season, during which he made limited appearances for Celta before a short loan stint with Real Valladolid.
The 30-year-old, who underwent Achilles surgery in late 2023, appears to be rediscovering his rhythm and fitness, much to the delight of Celta fans.
With the La Liga side showing improved form, Aidoo will be aiming to maintain consistency and stake a claim for a return to the Black Stars squad ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
