Jordan Pickford’s place in England squad in doubt

Jordan Pickford’s position with the England national team is in doubt following his club’s poor season.

The goalkeeper has been part of the Everton side who is currently fighting relegation and according to the Daily Mail, his position with his country is in jeopardy with Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale set to replace him between the sticks in the coming games.

The reports indicate that Pickford does not have a relegation clause in his contract at Goodison Park as earlier claimed and with all some top clubs in England ready to swop for his services should his club go down.

The worry for Gareth Southgate and the England national team is their fist choice keeper might be relegated to the bench in the top clubs should he make a move in the summer.

Reports are rife that Chelsea is one of the teams in need of the goalkeeper since Everton might not match his £110,000-a-week wages should they go down and such a move might decrease his playing time at the club level ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Southgate has continued to pick Sam Johnstone since West Brom was relegated last season but may have doubts about going to the World Cup with two out of his three keepers playing in the second tier.
