Jordan Ayew has opened up about the reasoning behind his decision to depart Crystal Palace after five seasons at Selhurst Park.
In a candid statement, the Ghanaian forward emphasized his competitive drive and desire for regular playing time as the primary factors influencing his move.
“As a player, when you are playing and you feel like you have given everything for the club, and maybe you realize that the club is in a good position and it’s a safe place, and you want to go out during the time, you have to make a decision, either stay or leave. Because I was competitive, I need to play; that is why I decided to leave Crystal Palace,” Ayew explained.
Since arriving from Swansea City in the summer of 2019, Ayew became a fixture in Palace’s attack, tallying 25 goals and numerous assists across Premier League and cup competitions.
His versatility—capable of operating on either wing or as a central striker; helped the Eagles secure several important results, including a memorable FA Cup semi-final run in 2021.
Despite his popularity among supporters and a consistent role under various managers, Ayew found his minutes reduced in the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign.
Faced with limited opportunities on the pitch, the 31-year-old felt it was the right moment to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere, prioritizing game time as he enters the latter stages of his career.
