Atletico de Madrid have completed the signing of Juventus forward Jonathan David during the final hours of the summer transfer window, giving manager Diego Simeone another attacking option and potentially providing Julian Alvarez with a new partner in the front line.
Juventus confirmed that an agreement had been reached for the Canadian striker to join Atletico on a free loan until 30 June 2027.
The deal also includes an option for Atletico to make the transfer permanent for €25m. Should the Spanish club choose to activate that clause, the fee will be paid over four financial years.
The move represents a significant addition to Simeone’s attacking options as Atletico seek greater depth in the final third. David was reportedly at the top of the club’s list of targets for the position, with Atletico keen to complete the deal in a way that would not require a major financial commitment at the outset.
Juventus also acknowledged the transfer through a social media post featuring the message:

David joined Juventus as a free agent last summer after his contract with French club Lille expired. However, the 2024-25 campaign did not produce the level of performance expected during his first season in Italian football.
He finished the campaign with eight goals across all competitions.
Atletico’s decision to strengthen their forward line comes as uncertainty continues over Alvarez’s future. The Argentina international is attracting interest from Barcelona, adding to the need for Simeone’s side to ensure they have sufficient attacking options.
David’s arrival gives Atletico an experienced international forward while allowing the club to delay any permanent financial commitment until it has assessed the player’s contribution. The loan agreement therefore offers Simeone an immediate solution in attack and leaves the club with the option to retain David on a long-term basis.
For Juventus, the agreement brings an end to David’s first season at the club and allows the Canadian to continue his career in La Liga. For Atletico, the signing closes a pursuit that had identified David as their preferred reinforcement in attack and adds competition around Alvarez and the rest of Simeone’s forward options.
