It was not difficult adapting to physical nature of the Premier League – Michael Essien

Chelsea great Michael Essien says it was not difficult in adapting to the physical nature of the Premier League.

In a compelling segment of the Sky Sports documentary, “How Africa changed the Premier League,” Essien passionately shares his experiences in what many regard as the world’s most challenging football league.

A notable acquisition under former owner Roman Abramovic, Essien made a £24.4 million transition from Olympique Lyon to Chelsea in 2005.

Across his eight-year stint with the club, the defensive midfielder secured significant victories, including two Premier League titles, two FA Cup titles, and the esteemed UEFA Champions League.

“My dream was to play in the Premier League and when the opportunity came I jumped on it and it was great to represent Ghana in the Premier League.”

“It was very physical at the time and that was part of my football. It was not difficult for me to adapt and I showed that.”
