Inter Milan confirms Lukaku’s return

Serie A giants Inter Milan has confirmed the return of Romelu Lukaku at the club on a season-long loan.

The striker only joined the Blues from Inter last summer in a blockbuster £97.5m transfer, but things didn’t go as planned with reports indicating that he fell out with manager Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea later announced that the deal was a one-season long loan spell. Although an option to buy, an obligation to buy, and an additional year were all discussed. Reports from 90mins indicate that the two clubs came to an agreement on a straight one-year loan for the center-forward, with Inter paying an €8m fee that could rise to €10m with add-ons.

The reports indicate that Lukaku’s desire to return to Inter saw him take a pay cut to help him overcome an Italian tax issue that had complicated matters.

Although he finished the season as the Blues’ top goalscorer with 15 goals in all competition, it was a stark contrast to the 64 goals in 95 games he rattled in for Inter in his last campaign in Italy.
