FIFA President Gianni Infantino has suggested potentially banning players from covering their mouths when talking to each other during games, citing concerns about suspected misconduct.
“If anyone says something covering their mouth, there will be a presumption that they said something in a way that is not admitted,” Infantino told Sky Sports.
“If you don’t have something to hide, you don’t hide your mouth when you say something.”
Infantino’s comments come amid discussions about racism in football following the incident that transpired with Vinicius Jr.
He believes removing this habit could increase transparency and reduce disputes. “One of the things I don’t understand is why a player should cover his/her mouth when they say something to another player,” he said.
The proposal aims to promote fair play and curb potential abuses.
FIFA may explore implementing rules to address this issue, though no decisions have been finalized.
