Ibrahimovic has no intentions to retire this summer

AC Milan director Paulo Maldini has revealed Zlatan Ibrahimovic has no intentions to retire this summer.

Ibrahimovic’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023 and is yet to sign a new deal. The Swede is set to be out for up to eight months after undergoing successful knee surgery on Wednesday.

The Rossoneri said the operation had been ‘planned for a while’ and will keep the 40-year-old out for up to eight months.

Speaking to Gazzetta, Maldini said, “I’m told that Zlatan Ibrahimović has no intention to retire this summer. Finding an agreement won’t be a problem”.

“There’s a release clause into Rafa Leão’s contract worth €150m but we consider him untouchable”.

“For the last 6 months I have been playing without ACL in my left knee,” Ibrahimovic explained.

“I have drained my knee once a week for 6 months. Painkillers every day for 6 months. I hardly slept for 6 months because of the pain. I have never suffered so much on and off the pitch.”

The 40-year-old was the figurehead of a Milan side that lifted the league title for the first time in 11 years.
