Ibrahim Tanko invites 19-year-old FC Basel midfielder to face Algeria in U23 AFCON qualifier —

Ghana U23, Black Meteors, head coach Ibrahim Tanko has handed an invitation to FC Basel midfielder Emmanuel Essiem as he names his 25-man squad to make the trip to Algeria for the U23 AFCON qualifier.

Essiam, 19, is a former Berekum Chelsea player who is yet to make his senior debut in the Swiss Super League for the 20-time Swiss champions.

However, the imposing midfielder has played 6 times in the third-tier league, Promotion League, for Basel’s second-string side where he has scored 1 goal.

He is at the club together with his former Berekum Chelsea teammate Jonas Adjei Adjetey.

He is not the only player joining the Meteors from the landlocked country as former Hearts of Oak attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is also in the squad for the game.
