How much Chelsea may have to pay to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Todd Boehly has been told how much Chelsea could have to fork out in order to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this summer, it has been reported.

Reports began to emerge at the back end of last week that Boehly held a meeting in Portugal last week with super-agent Jorge Mendes, whose clients include Cristiano Ronaldo. And it is believed that Ronaldo’s situation and the idea of him switching to Chelsea this summer is understood to have been among the subjects discussed.

Now, some insight into how much Chelsea would have to pay to land CR7 has been provided.

According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo is said to currently earn £385,000-a-week at United which is around £20m a year. Ronaldo is also currently valued at £17.2m by CIES Football Observatory.

So, all in all, Chelsea could find themselves paying £37.2m for Ronaldo’s services, should he pen a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge this summer.

And whilst that may seem like a lot, it is worth pointing out that Chelsea just broke their transfer record and came close to matching the Premier League’s transfer record for Romelu Lukaku – only for him to sit on the bench for half a season. The Belgian is also expected to complete a loan move to Inter Milan this summer.

So, whilst Ronaldo on a one-year deal is unlikely to be great business, Chelsea would still probably get a better return on their investment than they did with Lukaku.

Ronaldo scored 18 Premier League goals last term. Only Mohamed Salah and Heung-min Son netted more.
