How missing out on Champions League would impact Arsenal’s transfer plans

An insight into how Arsenal’s summer transfer plans would be impacted by them missing out on Champions League football has been provided.

The Gunners’ hopes of securing a top-four berth and, in turn, a spot in the Champions League for the first time since 2017, took a major hit on Monday evening.

After losing the north London derby last week, Arsenal were well aware they could not afford to drop points vs Newcastle United after Tottenham had picked up a win over Burnley.

However, when all was said and done at St James’ Park on Monday, Newcastle came away with a deserved 2-0 victory.

This means Tottenham are two points clear of Arsenal with just one game of the Premier League season left to play.

The Lilywhites also have a much better goal difference than their bitter rivals and, on paper, have a much, much easier final day outing.

Spurs will face off with 20th-place Norwich, who have the worst defence and worst attack in the English top-flight this season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, take on an Everton side whose Premier League safety is not yet guaranteed at the time of writing.

So, it seems very likely that Arsenal will have to settle for Europa League football in 2022/23. But how will that impact their summer plans?

Well, according to the Telegraph, it will not impact them at all, with it claimed that Arsenal’s likely failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League will not prevent the club from investing heavily in the first-team squad this summer, with Mikel Arteta desperate to recruit a handful of quality additions to his young team.

It is added that Arsenal see the 2022 summer transfer window as a major opportunity to improve the squad and have been planning accordingly, irrespective of whether they finish in fourth place or not.
