The National Sports Authority (NSA) in the Volta Region has announced the immediate closure of the Ho Sports Stadium for renovation works ahead of the upcoming season.
The decision was made public by Madam Joyce Datsa, the Volta Regional Director, during a meeting with the media on Tuesday.
The edifice which serves as a regional facility was constructed in 1957 but has since not seen any proper form of rehabilitation.
The grass on the playing field has over grown, drainage system problem, lack of sitting spaces, and cracks in the stands.
“We are meeting them on Thursday for further deliberations and as NSA, we are abreast with the kind of grass to be grown on the pitch. My subordinates and I have began works on the pitch.”
“Bad weeds are being taken out. We will revisit the pitch to see the new development of the field. We will quickly add the black soils when we get something from the two clubs (HSFC and IAFC) who will be using the filed.”
“Again, we spoke with the fire service for the provisions of water and so, we are working to get the pitch in good shape. Within 7 weeks, we can get the pitch ready,” she stated.
The renovation works are expected to be completed within seven weeks, ahead of the 2024/2025 season kickoff on September 27.
The closure will not affect the two Volta Region clubs, Home Stars Football Club and Inter Allies, participating in the Access Bank Division One League.
