Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he is ready to raise his performance level again as he prepares for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The 34-year-old has emerged as one of Ghana’s most prominent goalkeepers after a remarkable period which saw him become an important member of the Black Stars during their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in North America.
Asare was included in Ghana’s World Cup squad and started all three of the team’s group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia. His performances in those fixtures strengthened his reputation and underlined his growing importance to the national side.
Now, with the new domestic campaign approaching, the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper is determined to show that his recent progress was not a temporary rise. He views the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season as another chance to demonstrate his ability and justify the faith placed in him by supporters.
“This is the time to prove to Ghanaians that I can do it,” Asare said.
The former Great Olympics goalkeeper said the responsibility of playing in goal meant he had to continue proving himself regardless of the team or competition involved.
“Since this is my job, I have to prove myself wherever I play because of the love and support they have shown me. For now, Ghanaians should expect more from me next season,” he added.
Asare’s immediate focus will return to club football, with Hearts of Oak set to begin their league campaign against Berekum Chelsea. The fixture will provide the goalkeeper with an early opportunity to build on the form that helped him establish himself at international level.
His performances have also ensured that he remains in contention for selection by the Black Stars. Asare could be considered for Ghana’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which are scheduled to start in September.
The goalkeeper’s recent rise has been particularly notable because of the responsibility he assumed during Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Starting against Panama, England and Croatia placed him at the centre of the Black Stars’ group-stage efforts, while his displays earned widespread recognition.
Asare will therefore begin the new Ghana Premier League season with both domestic and international ambitions. For Hearts of Oak, his form will be an important part of their preparations for their opening fixture against Berekum Chelsea. For Ghana, his continued development gives him the opportunity to remain part of the national-team picture ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
