Hapoel Tel Aviv have reportedly shown interest in signing Ghanaian winger Douglas Owusu from Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade during the ongoing transfer window.
The Israeli Premier League club are assessing the possibility of bringing the 20-year-old to Israel, although no agreement has been reached and discussions remain at an early stage.
Owusu joined Red Star Belgrade in January 2026 in a reported €2.2m transfer. However, the Ghanaian could be on the move again as he looks for the regular first-team football that has so far eluded him in Serbia.
The winger has yet to make a competitive appearance for Red Star Belgrade in the current campaign. That lack of playing time has intensified speculation that he could leave, either on loan or in a permanent transfer.
Hapoel Tel Aviv regard Owusu as a potential addition to their attack. His pace, creativity and ability to play in wide areas are understood to fit the club’s plans as they look to strengthen their squad.
Despite the reported interest, Owusu remains highly regarded by Red Star Belgrade. A move may nevertheless be considered if it offers him the consistent involvement required to continue his development.
Owusu arrived in Serbia after making a strong impression in European football. He was included in the Red Star Belgrade squad that completed a domestic double in the 2025/26 season, with the club winning both the Serbian SuperLiga title and the Serbian Cup.
His involvement in that successful squad has not yet translated into a competitive appearance in the current campaign, leaving his immediate future uncertain. Hapoel Tel Aviv’s interest could provide him with an opportunity to secure more regular minutes, but the clubs have not reached an agreement and negotiations have not advanced beyond the early assessment stage.
For now, any possible transfer remains dependent on further discussions between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Red Star Belgrade. The Israeli side will continue to consider whether Owusu is the right fit for its attacking plans, while Red Star Belgrade must weigh the benefits of retaining a player it values against the prospect of allowing him to gain experience elsewhere.
No decision has been made on whether the Ghanaian will leave Serbia permanently or depart on loan.
