Hakim Ziyech has publicly accused Wydad president Ibrahim El Aassri of lying after being left out of the club’s training camp in Agadir, deepening the uncertainty surrounding the Morocco international’s future.
Ziyech responded to an Instagram post from a Wydad-supporting page which reported that he had not been included in the squad for the closed camp. The post claimed the 32-year-old had asked Wydad head coach Paolo Sergio why he had been omitted and was told the decision had been made by the club’s administration.
According to Moroccan outlet Radio Mars, Ziyech replied: “Go and ask your president why he refused to let me play the match (the friendly against Renaissance Zemamra), and why I was not allowed to go to Agadir. Perhaps he will lie about it, as always.”
The blunt response has prompted questions among Wydad supporters about whether Ziyech’s relationship with the club’s leadership can be repaired.
His comments suggest the disagreement goes beyond his absence from the Agadir camp, with tensions appearing to have increased over his involvement in the friendly match against Renaissance Zemamra and the club’s decision to leave him out of its travelling group.
The dispute follows negotiations between Ziyech and Wydad’s administration over a reduction in his salary. The club, led by El Aassri, sought to lower the player’s wages, but Ziyech rejected the proposal.
He also turned down the financial alternatives and other suggestions put forward during those discussions, maintaining his position throughout the negotiations.
Ziyech joined Wydad in October 2025 on a two-year contract. His move took place during the presidency of Hicham Ait Menna, who was in charge of the Moroccan club when the agreement was completed.
The latest exchange has now placed the player and Wydad’s administration in an increasingly difficult position. Ziyech’s public criticism of the president represents a significant escalation in a disagreement that had previously centred on salary discussions and squad selection.
With the player contracted to Wydad for two years, his omission from the Agadir camp and his accusation against El Aassri have left his position at the club unclear. No further details about the administration’s response were included in the report.
