Guardiola confirms double injury blow after Atletico clash

Pep Guardiola has confirmed injuries to Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker after their intense Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg a week ago, City needed any draw to advance, and they got the job done, booking a semi-final date with Real Madrid.

The win however came at a cost as the duo had to be substituted at the Wendo Metropolitano, and will most likely miss the FA Cup weekend clash against Liverpool.

De Bruyne was first substituted for City, with pictures showing physio putting ice on his ankle on the bench.

Walker then twisted his ankle as he went to clear a ball, going down under pressure, and was replaced by Nathan Ake.

“We are in big trouble,” said Guardiola when asked about the injury status after the game. “We played three days ago, now have a lot of injuries, I don’t know what will happen in the next weeks.

“We are going to celebrate. It’s the third time we’re in the semi-finals of the Champions League, a big success and happy to be there.”

This will be the second successive weekend City play Liverpool, having played a thriling 2-2 draw in the Premier League last weekend.
