Real Tamale United (RTU), a club who have been dominating the headlines in the last few days for the wrong reasons, failed once more to honour their final game of the season against Accra Great Olympics on Sunday afternoon.
Olympics, who were battling to avoid the drop prior to kick-off, were spotted warming up and stripped for the game without the Real Tamale United players alongside them.
RTU’s controversial game against Dreams FC, which saw the club field unregistered players, has been an issue of discussion in the quarters of the Ghana Football Association, with the FA set to meter out the right punishment for the act.
The 8-1 trouncing to Dreams secured the Dawu club’s Premier League status for next season, with the failure of RTU to turn up for the game against Olympics (due to unpaid bonuses owed players) temporarily secures Olympics spot in the league next season, until Hearts and Karela play their respective games.
Per the regulations of the league, the failure to turn up on a matchday automatically hands the opposing team three points and three goals, which Accra Great Olympics are beneficiaries of – as the game is deemed a forfeit.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak and Karela United would have to win their games against Bechem United and Medeama, respectively, to avoid being cantered to the Access Bank Division One League.
