Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Ebenezer Ocran on a two-year contract ahead of the new season.
The 30-year-old joins the East African club as a free agent after his contract with Ghana Premier League side Samartex expired. His arrival gives Gor Mahia additional experience and options in both midfield and defence as they prepare for domestic and continental competition.
Ocran was recommended to the club by newly appointed head coach Charles Akonnor, who regarded the experienced player as an important addition to the squad. The midfielder’s signing is therefore one of the early moves made under Akonnor as Gor Mahia plan for the 2026/27 campaign.
Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Ocran is also capable of operating in defence. His ability to perform in more than one position is expected to strengthen the depth available to the Kenyan champions and provide the coaching staff with greater tactical flexibility.
Gor Mahia will be aiming to retain their league title during the coming season, while also improving their prospects in African club football. Ocran is expected to play a significant part in those ambitions after moving to the club from Samartex.
The transfer represents a new stage in Ocran’s career. It is his first move outside Ghana, giving him the opportunity to take on a new challenge with one of East Africa’s leading clubs.
His arrival also adds to the competition for places within the Gor Mahia squad. The club will be able to use him in a holding midfield role or deploy him in defence when required, with his versatility and composure viewed as key qualities.
Ocran leaves Samartex after the expiry of his contract and begins his first campaign abroad with a two-year commitment to Gor Mahia. The Kenyan champions believe his experience can help them manage the demands of domestic football while competing on the continental stage.
Akonnor’s recommendation was central to the deal, with the new head coach identifying the Ghanaian as a player capable of making a meaningful contribution to the squad. Ocran will now be expected to turn that confidence into performances as Gor Mahia begin preparations for the new season.
The signing confirms the club’s intention to reinforce its squad ahead of a campaign in which defending the league title and making a strong impression in African club football are both priorities.
