Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea is set to make history as the lead VAR official in today’s Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 clash between South Africa and Cameroon.

Laryea, a seasoned referee with experience in top African competitions, including the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, is the only Ghanaian official selected for the tournament.

Laryea’s appointment is a testament to his exceptional skills and expertise, having previously served as a VAR official in previous CAF tournaments.

His involvement in the match is expected to bring a high level of professionalism and accuracy to the game.

A former Accra Academy student, Laryea has officiated in numerous high-stakes matches, including Ghana’s biggest games featuring Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

He was also in charge of Burkina Faso and Algeria at the 2025 AFCON.

His experience and calm demeanor make him an excellent choice for this crucial match.
