Ghana’s Daniel Laryea attends second CAF Professionals Referees Course in Egypt

Ghana’s Daniel Laryea has participated in the second CAF Professionals Referees Course in Cairo, Egypt.

Laryea was among the professional referees on the continent that took part in the four-day training course, which ended on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The course, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), brought together the top talented referees and experienced instructors in Africa to enhance their skills and share their experiences.

The referees underwent physical, theoretical, and technical tests during the course.

Daniel Laryea is currently Ghana’s number one referee, having made the FIFA International list in 2014.

He began as a referee in the Ghanaian lower division league at the age of 17 and later officiated his first Ghana Premier League between Medeama SC and Berekum Chelsea FC.

Following his enlistment as FIFA referee, Laryea has officiated in a number of international football competitions including; the 2017 CAF U-17 Cup of Nations which was held in Gabon, the 2018 WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana, the 2018 CHAN hosted by Morocco, and the 2020 CHAN tournament held in Cameroon and was also one of the appointed referees of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Daniel Laryea officiated during the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco. He was the Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR) for the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League Final.

On 6 December 2022, he also made the list of officials for the rescheduled 2022 Africa Nations Championship in Algeria.

On 13 January 2023, he served as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee for the opening match for the competition between Algeria and Libya before working in the same capacity in the final.
