Ghanaian goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan has earned global recognition after being shortlisted for the Women’s 11 at the 2025 The Best FIFA Awards.
The Samartex Ladies shot-stopper caught the eyes of football fans and analysts worldwide with her commanding performances for the Black Queens during the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Her consistency between the posts played a massive role in Ghana’s run to a bronze-medal finish.
Konlan stood tall in the knockout rounds, producing crucial saves that kept Ghana in contention until the very end.
Her efforts not only boosted the Queens’ campaign but also elevated her reputation as one of the finest goalkeepers on the continent.
The Ghanaian is one of three African goalkeepers nominated in the category and the only Ghanaian player to make the FIFA shortlist this year.
She shares the spotlight with a strong African contingent including Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria), Ngoy Mudimbi (Tanzania), Ghizlane Chebbak, Ibtissam Jraidi, and Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco), Barbra Banda (Zambia), and Temwa Chawinga (Malawi).
