Armah said the payment amounted to half of the appearance fee received by the players. He added that members of the management committee were not given daily allowances or winning bonuses during the tournament.
The disclosure provides the first detail about the financial arrangements for Ghana’s management team at the World Cup. It also raises questions about whether the payment was part of a wider reward package announced before the tournament or was made separately.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams announced in October 2025 that members of the Black Stars Management Committee would receive financial rewards for helping Ghana qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, it has not been established whether the $50,000 appearance fee was included in those rewards or represented a separate payment. Armah’s comments did not clarify the relationship between the two arrangements.
He also revealed that he used part of the money to support pastors who had prayed for him and the Black Stars throughout Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
Ghana progressed from the group stage to reach the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That achievement marked the Black Stars’ first appearance in the knockout phase of the competition in 10 years.
