The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organize a testimonial match to celebrate the legendary career of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, whose impact on Ghanaian and African football remains unmatched.

Affectionately known as “Baby Jet,” Asamoah Gyan is Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, with 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars.

He also holds the record as Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, with six goals across three tournaments — Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.

The GFA, in collaboration with Gyan and his representatives, will soon release full details of the event. The testimonial will serve as a fitting tribute to one of Ghana’s greatest-ever footballers — a player whose name is etched deeply in the nation’s sporting history.

Gyan began with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving to Udinese in Italy, later featuring for Modena, Rennes, and Sunderland in the English Premier League.

His global journey continued in the Middle East and Asia, where he became a star at Al Ain and Al Ahli in the UAE, as well as Shanghai SIPG in China and Kayserispor in Turkey. He eventually concluded his playing days with Legon Cities FC in Ghana.
