German-Ghanaian winger Justin Diehl has suffered another major injury setback, sidelining him once again just as he was regaining form with VfB Stuttgart’s U-21 side.
The 20-year-old picked up a ligament injury to his right ankle during Stuttgart’s 3–0 win over FC Schweinfurt moments after scoring a brilliant opener. He was substituted in the 56th minute, and Monday’s MRI confirmed the worst: a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Diehl, who is eligible to represent both Germany and Ghana, had only recently returned from injury and was beginning to rebuild momentum. This latest blow halts what had been a promising recovery.
Last season, the talented winger made 16 senior appearances for Stuttgart, registering two goals and an assist. He has featured three times this campaign for the U-21s, with a goal and an assist to his name.
Club doctors say they will take a cautious approach to his rehabilitation, emphasizing long-term fitness over a quick return.
