Ghanaian striker Patrick Twumasi scored the consolation goal for FC Astana as they slipped to painful 2-1 defeat in the Kazakhstan Cup final on Saturday morning.

The 21-year-old striker fired the Premier League title-holders into the lead with a patent 29th minute effort at the Astana Arena.

Twumasi brilliantly arrived in the box to finish off the move he initiated from midfield just before the half-hour mark.

But Astana could not hold on to the lead as Serbian striker Dorde Despotovic scored a brace on the second-half to win the title for Kairat.

Astana won the league title after beating Kairat to the title but they have avenged the League title loss by beating the winners.

Twumasi has been cleared by FIFA to play for Astana in the Uefa Champions League after his suspension.
