Ghana winger Lloyd Sam is nearing the 20 goals and 20 assists mark with the New York Red Bulls.
After tallying 10 goals and seven assists in 2015, Sam has totaled 19 goals and 18 assists in his four seasons with Major League soccer club.
And Sam who has been capped once by Ghana could join the list of greats should he score as well as assist twice in New York Red Bulls League opener with Toronto FC on Sunday.
Thus far, only four players in club history have earned at least 20 goals and 20 assists: Thierry Henry (51 goals, 42 assists), Clint Mathis (39 goals, 23 assists), Amado Guevara (32 goals, 36 assists) and Dane Richards (21 goals, 26 assists).
Sam’s successful 2015 season included oneMLS goal of the season nominee as he proved to be the Red Bulls’ most precise attacking threat. The midfielder led the team in scoring percentage with 10 goals from 32 shots (31.3%) and landed the highest percentage of shots on goal with 20 (62.5%).
