The Black Satellites will look to end their 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship campaign with a victory when they face Togo in their final Group B match on Sunday.
Head coach Maxwell Konadu has completed preparations with his squad in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire, as Ghana aim to produce a positive result at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
The team held its final training session on Saturday, focusing on tactical work and finishing drills under the guidance of Konadu and his technical staff.
Ghana have taken only one point from their opening two matches and will be determined to finish the group stage on a stronger note.
Their tournament began with a 4-2 defeat by reigning champions Nigeria. They then showed considerable resilience to draw 1-1 with Burkina Faso, despite playing with 10 men for a significant period of the match.
That performance earned Ghana a valuable point, although progression is no longer at stake heading into the meeting with Togo.
With the result having no bearing on qualification, Konadu is expected to make changes to his starting line-up and give playing time to members of the squad who have featured less during the tournament.
The former Ghana international, however, is still expected to select a competitive team capable of challenging for all three points against Togo. A winning performance would allow the Black Satellites to close their campaign with renewed confidence after a difficult start.
Although the results have been disappointing, the competition has provided an important opportunity for Ghana’s young players and technical staff to gain experience in a demanding international environment.
The WAFU B Championship has allowed Konadu and his coaching team to assess the squad in competitive matches, work on team cohesion and expose the players to high-level opposition.
Those lessons will form part of Ghana’s preparations for next year’s 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be staged on home soil.
Ghana have already secured automatic qualification for that tournament because they are hosting it. As a result, the Black Satellites are using the WAFU B competition primarily as a platform for development and preparation rather than as a route to reach the continental finals.
The match against Togo therefore offers Ghana one final chance in this campaign to turn their efforts into a result. A victory would provide a timely lift for the squad and give the players a positive foundation as attention shifts towards the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
