Accra Lions will be fighting to keep their survival hopes alive when they host mid-table Aduana FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday in a pivotal Ghana Premier League clash.
The Lions have endured a difficult campaign, with their most recent setback coming in a narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Nations FC — their 14th loss of the season. Sitting 16th on the table with 32 points from 30 matches, Reiner Kraft’s side remains trapped in the relegation zone and in desperate need of points as the season nears its conclusion.
Despite their poor overall form, there is reason for optimism. Accra Lions have turned their home ground into a fortress in recent weeks, going unbeaten in their last five home matches (W4, D1). With seven home wins so far, they’ll be aiming for an eighth — and history is on their side. Since making their Premier League debut in 2021, the Lions have never lost at home to Aduana FC, recording one win and two goalless draws.
Aduana FC, currently 10th with 41 points, head to the capital on the back of a confidence-boosting victory over Berekum Chelsea in the Bono derby. The two-time champions will be chasing back-to-back wins for the third time this year but face a tricky test against a side fighting for survival.
Though Aduana have been the eighth-best side on the road this season, their recent away form leaves much to be desired. They’ve failed to score in four of their last five away outings, with a record of one win, one draw, and three defeats over that span.
With history and home form in their favour, Accra Lions will view Saturday’s encounter as a must-win to keep their top-flight hopes alive.
