Ghana’s Parliament has officially passed the Sports Fund Bill, paving the way for a dedicated financing structure for sports development nationwide.
The legislation, which has been in the pipeline for nearly eight years, was approved on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
It was presented to the House by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, after extensive consultations and reviews.
The Bill’s passage follows years of bipartisan engagement, technical scrutiny, and stakeholder input across multiple institutions.
Once operational, the Sports Fund will become the primary funding source for sports growth in the country. The framework is designed to support athlete welfare, grassroots sports, infrastructure development, and structured talent identification programmes.
Earlier in the year, the Sports Minister confirmed the Bill had cleared Cabinet and parliamentary committee reviews, with support from the Ministry of Finance and the Attorney-General’s Office.
The Fund will draw revenue from statutory allocations, donations, and other approved sources. It will be overseen by an independent governing board with strict accountability measures.
