Ghana opens London Trade House to expand Made-in-Ghana exports and investment

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has opened a permanent Trade House in London aimed at increasing the visibility of quality Made-in-Ghana products and creating new opportunities for exporters and investors in the United Kingdom.

The facility is designed as a marketplace and investor-friendly hub for retail buyers, institutions and businesses seeking to engage with export-ready Ghanaian companies. It will showcase products from industries including processed foods, beverages, textiles, cosmetics and light manufacturing.

GEPA said the London Trade House would provide a one-stop destination for Ghanaian exporters while strengthening the country’s longstanding trade and investment relationship with the UK.

The facility was launched in partnership with the Ghana High Commission in the UK and other stakeholders. It will host sector-specific events, business-to-business meetings and themed promotional campaigns, allowing buyers to connect with individual companies as well as Ghana’s broader investment network.

That network includes trade and investment agencies supporting export-led growth.

The London opening is the fourth such initiative by GEPA. Similar Trade Houses have been established in Nairobi, Kenya, and Philadelphia, USA, offering warehousing, branding and market-entry assistance to exporters while giving overseas investors early access to high-potential Ghanaian businesses.

‘A practical bridge’ between Ghana and UK buyers

Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, said the new London hub would provide a direct link between Ghanaian producers and the UK market.

He said exporters now had a dedicated location where their goods could be discovered, assessed and developed for a sophisticated international audience.

“For our businesses, London is no longer just a destination in our export statistics; it is a city where Ghanaian brands can build real shelf presence and long-term relationships,” he noted.

Mr Arthur said establishing the facility formed part of a wider plan to secure a stronger position for Ghanaian products in important regional markets.

“This also provides investors with a curated, data-rich platform to engage with a growing, outward-looking non-traditional export economy,” the GEPA CEO added.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, said the Trade House reflected the wider development of relations between Ghana and the UK. She pointed to continued growth in bilateral trade and an increasing number of UK investment projects in Ghana.

“By opening this Trade House, we are giving that partnership a new, everyday expression: Ghanaian products on display in London, backed by Ghanaian and British institutions committed to expanding trade and investment,” Ms Benson said.

Government welcomes export-sector progress

Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations, spoke on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the launch.

Mr Dogbe described the progress made by Ghana’s non-traditional export sector over the previous year as remarkable. He said the London facility would help bring a wider range of Ghanaian products closer to international buyers.

“Platforms like this will allow more Ghanaian products to be brought closer to us. GEPA is there to assist all these businesses, whether small or big, to be able to penetrate these international markets,” Mr Dogbe added.

Simon Madjie, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), said opening the London Trade House after the success of the Philadelphia facility showed the importance of forward-thinking partnerships.

He said such partnerships were needed to turn Ghana’s export potential into investment and shared prosperity.

Mr Madjie also expressed optimism that the new facility would generate fresh investment opportunities in Ghana. He encouraged investors and business leaders to visit the country and examine the range of prospects available.
