Ghana goalkeeper Joe Wollacott saves crucial penalty in Charlton’s shootout win over Stevenage in Carabao Cup

Black Stars goalkeeper Joe Wollacott shined for Charlton Athletic as he saved a crucial penalty in their win over Stevenage in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was the hero for the Addicks as the League One side beat Stevenage 5-4 on penalties to advance to the last 16 stage of the competition.

Wollacott has made 20 appearances for Charlton this season across all competitions, kept five clean sheets and conceded 23 goals.

Luke Norris gave Stevenage the lead in the 22nd minute through the penalty spot. Th hosts continued to press, with Taylor forcing Wollacott into a stop before clipping the bar minutes later.

After the recess, Charlton were much improved and with three minutes to play, substitute Chuks Aneke clinically finished to send the game to a penalty shootout.

After four flawless spot-kicks, Wollacott dived to his left to save Taylor’s, before Fraser made no mistake to send the Addicks through.

Wollacott has been named in Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
